IndiGo Airlines Adding 10 New International Destinations

IndiGo Airlines Adding 10 New International Destinations

DELHI- IndiGo Airlines (6E), recognized as India’s largest low-cost carrier, has unveiled plans to expand its international network by adding 10 new destinations, including major cities like London (LHR) and Athens (ATH). This initiative is part of the airline’s ambitious global expansion strategy for 2025, aimed at increasing its international reach from 40 to 50 destinations within this financial year.

The airline will initiate flights from essential hubs in India, notably Mumbai (BOM), creating new direct links to key cities such as Amsterdam (AMS), Manchester (MAN), and Siem Reap (REP). This move significantly reinforces IndiGo’s position in the long-haul market and addresses underserved international routes.

IndiGo’s strategic expansion is indicative of the increasing demand for international air travel from India, bolstered by enhancements in the country’s airport infrastructure.

CEO Pieter Elbers has highlighted the rapid evolution of India’s aviation landscape, stating that IndiGo is poised to grow in tandem with these developments. The airline’s revised international roadmap includes routes to Europe, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia, catering to both business and leisure travelers.

New routes include:

  • Amsterdam (AMS) and Manchester (MAN) – marking a substantial entry into long-haul operations utilizing leased Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
  • Copenhagen (CPH) and Athens (ATH) – capitalizing on the increasing interest among Indian tourists in Northern and Southern Europe.
  • Siem Reap (REP) – enabling cultural tourism to Cambodia.
  • Four cities in Central Asia – as part of IndiGo’s growing regional strategy (specific locations to be confirmed).

The newly introduced Mumbai to Manchester flight is significant, positioning IndiGo prominently in the long-haul sector, which has traditionally been dominated by full-service carriers. These new services are set to commence in July 2025.

A Strong Network

IndiGo’s extensive domestic network lays a robust foundation for facilitating international traffic. With over 90 domestic destinations and more than 2,300 daily flights, the airline effectively connects nearly 90% of India’s population to international routes.

The current fleet, comprising more than 430 aircraft, is equipped to support this level of service. In line with its fiscal year 2025 plans, IndiGo aims to add over 100 new routes, including 40 international and 20 domestic cities, further solidifying its status as India’s largest airline by market share.

The airline’s annual revenue of $10 billion, coupled with consistent profitability, provides the financial foundation necessary for ongoing expansion. Additionally, IndiGo’s commitment to diversity is reflected in its workforce, which boasts the highest number of female pilots in India, showcasing its progressive corporate culture.

Elbers also addressed potential regulatory challenges, particularly regarding bilateral agreements with Turkey. He assured that IndiGo will navigate within established aviation frameworks while adapting to shifting diplomatic and legal conditions.

To ensure compliance and alignment with international aviation regulations, IndiGo is actively monitoring the regulatory landscape across its intended new regions.
