CHICAGO- United Airlines (UA) is gearing up for a record-setting operational schedule this fall from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The airline plans to execute an impressive 592 daily flights in October, which will mark the highest volume of outbound flights from its home base to date.
In November, the airline aims to introduce an additional 50 flights from Chicago, enhancing access to popular warm-weather locations such as Phoenix (PHX), Austin (AUS), and Orlando (MCO). Significantly, United will offer a 10% increase in seating capacity to Florida compared to last year during the same timeframe.
United Airlines is capitalizing on a summer of unprecedented demand by expanding its fall network from Chicago O’Hare (ORD).
This expansion includes increased flight frequencies to key U.S. destinations, as well as extended services to Latin America and the Caribbean to cater to travelers seeking warmer getaway options.
New or extended service includes:
- Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR): Extended weekend service starting in October
- Cozumel, Mexico (CZM): Extended weekend service available in November
- Saint Martin (SXM): Extended weekend service offered in November
- Guatemala City, Guatemala (GUA): Additional weekend flights commencing in October
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ): Added weekend service in October
- San José del Cabo, Mexico (SJD): Extra weekend flights beginning in October
On the domestic front, United will increase flights to popular warm-weather locations like Phoenix (PHX), Austin (AUS), and Orlando (MCO), responding to the uptick in leisure travel anticipated during the fall season.
United’s growth this fall is underpinned by a modernized fleet that includes the Airbus A321neo and Boeing 737 MAX 9. These aircraft will enhance the passenger experience through features such as seat-back entertainment at every seat, larger overhead bin space, and improved fuel efficiency, contributing positively to both customer satisfaction and operational sustainability.
The airline has also introduced Starlink-powered in-flight Wi-Fi from Chicago, providing passengers with high-speed internet access during their journey.
Moreover, United has expanded its Polaris® lounge at ORD by 50%, now offering nearly 25,000 square feet of upscale space tailored for international travelers.
O’Hare at the Center of United Airlines’ Long-Term Strategy
Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) remains a pivotal hub for United’s domestic and international expansions.
According to United, the number of mainline aircraft operating from ORD this October will exceed anything seen in the last two decades, further affirming the airport’s position as the most connected in the nation.
The expansion has been positively received by city officials. Mayor Brandon Johnson remarked that United’s growth is in line with the city’s long-term capital strategy for O’Hare.
Commissioner Michael J. McMurray from the Chicago Department of Aviation highlighted how the enhanced services to Latin America and the Caribbean bolster ORD’s international presence.
Currently, United Airlines employs over 18,000 individuals in the Chicago area and has recently hired an additional 2,000 employees locally.
The airline anticipates adding around 5,400 more jobs by 2027, underscoring its dedication to fostering local economic development.
