Akasa Air is set to commence flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport, beginning with over 100 domestic departures weekly. This number is expected to rise to 300 domestic and 50 international flights in the near future. The airline plans to enhance its operational network with 10 parking bases by the year 2027, strategically focusing on Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian routes.

Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, remarked, “Our entry into Navi Mumbai International Airport is a vital step in line with Akasa Air’s long-term vision to become a contemporary airline that meets the changing expectations of Indian travelers. No airline in India will have a larger proportion of its fleet and operations based at NMIA than Akasa Air.”

“Boosting connectivity from Navi Mumbai will not only enhance our network in the western region but also contribute to India’s economic growth by improving connectivity, promoting regional development, and ensuring that the benefits of aviation-driven expansion reach all areas of the country,” Dube emphasized. “NMIA is indicative of the future of Indian aviation, and our presence here from the beginning aligns with our ambition to address India’s emerging demands with flexibility, accessibility, and innovative customer service. We value our partnership with Adani Airports, which fosters expanded connectivity from this state-of-the-art airport while furthering the national vision of aviation growth,” Dube added. Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, stated, “We are delighted to welcome Akasa Air as one of the inaugural airline partners at Navi Mumbai International Airport. Their rapid advancement and forward-looking strategy position them as an ideal collaborator in NMIA’s journey to become a significant domestic and international hub, aimed at offering a seamless and improved travel experience for millions, with NMIA playing a critical role in enhancing Mumbai’s air connectivity landscape.”
In its preliminary phase, Navi Mumbai Airport will accommodate 20 million passengers and 0.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo annually, with plans to ultimately expand capacity to 90 million passengers and 3.2 MMT of cargo.
The establishment of Navi Mumbai Airport will initiate a dual-airport system servicing the nation’s financial center, addressing congestion at Mumbai’s current airport and elevating the overall passenger experience.
The airport covers an area of over 1,160 hectares (2,866 acres).
In March 2025, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani visited the nearly operational Navi Mumbai airport site.
Adani Group has previously suggested that it aims to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai airport during the first half of 2025.
The greenfield Navi Mumbai airport is designed with two parallel runways, enabling simultaneous takeoffs and landings. The location features a 3,700-meter runway capable of accommodating large commercial aircraft.
Adani Airport Holdings Limited, established in 2019, is a fully owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd, the flagship company of the Adani Group.
The Adani Group made its initial foray into the airport domain as the highest bidder for the operation, management, and development of six airports: Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati, and Thiruvananthapuram. It has also finalized concession agreements with the Airport Authority of India for all six airports. The operational airport in Mumbai is also part of Adani’s portfolio.
