This new addition signifies the company’s 29th aircraft within a short span of 33 months of operation. Overview of Akasa Air’s operations

Akasa Air announced the arrival of its 29th aircraft, a Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 with registration number VT-YBG, at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. This aircraft joins the fleet within just 33 months of the airline’s operational journey. The delivery flight started in Seattle, USA, stopped at Keflavik, Iceland, and concluded with a final leg from Kuwait to Bengaluru, India.

“The latest addition is part of our growth strategy and a commitment to actively serve the Indian aviation market,” the low-cost airline stated.

In an impressive feat, Akasa Air previously set a global record by reaching a fleet size of 20 aircraft within its first year of operations. The airline has an ambitious plan with 197 more aircraft expected to be delivered over the next eight years.

Reports in April indicated that the airline aims to scale its fleet to 30 aircraft by July, emphasizing its growth plans after facing delays in aircraft deliveries.

Upcoming Developments

Delays in aircraft deliveries have stemmed from heightened regulatory scrutiny regarding Boeing’s 737 program, particularly following a mid-air incident involving an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX. Out of the 446 MAX jets ordered by Indian airlines, only 65 have been delivered to date, and Boeing is now targeting a rate of two aircraft deliveries per month. Consequently, some Akasa pilots have faced grounding due to these delays. Currently, 18% of the airline’s operational capacity is derived from international flights.
