Akasa Air has recently welcomed a new Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 to its fleet, marking a significant milestone. The aircraft has arrived in Bengaluru, making it the 29th addition in just 33 months of operations. The airline is set to further expand with plans to introduce an additional 197 aircraft in the coming years, though delivery delays from Boeing have posed challenges to this strategy.

Akasa Air Expansion
Akasa Air announced on Monday that it has welcomed the Boeing 737 MAX 8-200, with the registration number VT-YBG, at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. This addition is a part of Akasa Air’s relentless growth efforts, occurring within just 33 months of operations. The delivery flight’s journey commenced from Seattle, USA, moving to Keflavik, Iceland, before reaching Bengaluru after the final leg from Kuwait, India.

“This latest fleet addition is pivotal to our growth strategy and showcases our commitment to serving the Indian aviation sector,” Akasa Air emphasized in a statement.

Previously, Akasa Air achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the fastest airline to achieve a fleet size of 20 aircraft within its inaugural year of operations. Over the next eight years, an additional 197 aircraft are expected to join its ranks.

In April, reports highlighted the airline’s ambition to expand to 30 aircraft by July, despite encountering a setback due to prolonged delivery delays.

Live Events

Akasa’s aircraft deliveries have faced delays due to heightened regulatory scrutiny regarding Boeing’s 737 program following a cabin panel incident on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX last year. Out of the 446 jets ordered by Indian airlines, only about 65 have been delivered. Boeing has committed to supplying two aircraft per month, although these setbacks have resulted in the grounding of several Akasa pilots. Currently, 18% of the airline’s operations consist of international flights.
