Boeing secured an impressive 303 new aircraft orders in May 2025, making it the sixth-highest month for orders recorded in the company’s history.
This represented a remarkable rebound from the mere eight orders Boeing placed in April 2025, while its competitor Airbus experienced a significant downturn, managing only 11 total orders in the same month.
According to Boeing’s comprehensive orders and deliveries report, the 303 aircraft ordered in May included 119 737 MAX, 75 787-10s, 45 787-9s, 30 777X, and an additional 20 737 MAX, along with seven each of the 787-9s and 737 MAX.
In contrast, Airbus did not report any new orders during this timeframe, potentially holding off on announcements ahead of the upcoming International Paris Air Show.
The orders logged in May 2025 signify a critical milestone for Boeing, particularly as the company disclosed its intention to ramp up its monthly production rate from 38 to 42 units of the 737 MAX series by mid-2025.
However, despite the recent influx of orders, Boeing is grappling with a substantial backlog of 6,537 unfulfilled orders as of May 2025, exacerbated by ongoing production constraints and ongoing supply chain challenges.
As of early June 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has yet to lift the monthly production limit of 38 aircraft on Boeing’s 737 MAX jets. This restriction was introduced in response to the Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 plug door incident in January 2024.
In terms of deliveries, Boeing managed to transfer 45 new aircraft in May 2025, which was six fewer than Airbus, which successfully delivered 51 aircraft to its 32 customers during the same period.
Thus far in 2025, Boeing has successfully delivered 220 new aircraft, comprising 167 737s, 28 787s, 16 777s, and nine 767s. On the other hand, Airbus has delivered 243 new aircraft to 61 customers globally.
