Boeing logs 303 orders in May 2025 as Airbus reports none

Boeing achieved a remarkable feat by placing orders for 303 new aircraft in May 2025, establishing it as the sixth-best month for orders in the company’s history.

This figure represents a notable surge compared to the mere eight orders that Boeing secured in April 2025. In contrast, Airbus experienced a significant downturn, with a total of only 11 orders during the same month.

According to Boeing’s report on orders and deliveries, the breakdown of the 303 aircraft ordered in May 2025 included 119 737 MAX, 75 787-10s, 45 787-9s, 30 777Xs, and additional orders of 20 737 MAX, seven 787-9s, and another seven 737 MAX.

On the other hand, its European competitor Airbus did not register any new orders during that time, likely withholding announcements in anticipation of the upcoming International Paris Air Show.

The orders placed in May 2025 signify a pivotal milestone for Boeing, particularly as the company announced intentions to increase its monthly production rate from 38 to 42 units of the 737 MAX series by mid-2025.

Nevertheless, despite garnering new orders, Boeing faces challenges in whittling down its considerable backlog of 6,537 unfilled orders as of May 2025, hindered by ongoing production restrictions and lingering supply chain issues.

As of early June 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not lifted the production ceiling of 38 aircraft per month imposed on Boeing’s 737 MAX jets. This restriction was implemented following the incident involving an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 in January 2024.

In terms of deliveries, Boeing transferred 45 new aircraft to customers in May 2025, which is six aircraft fewer than Airbus, which successfully delivered 51 aircraft to 32 customers during the same month.

Throughout 2025 thus far, Boeing has delivered a total of 220 new aircraft, encompassing 167 737s, 28 787s, 16 777s, and nine 767s. Meanwhile, Airbus has made 243 new aircraft deliveries to 61 customers globally.
