Boeing achieved remarkable success by placing orders for 303 new aircraft in May 2025, marking it as one of the top months for orders in the company’s history.
This represents a substantial increase compared to the eight orders Boeing secured in April 2025. Conversely, Airbus encountered a significant decline with only 11 orders reported in the same month.
As detailed in Boeing’s orders and deliveries report, the 303 aircraft ordered in May 2025 included 119 737 MAX, 75 787-10s, 45 787-9s, 30 777X, a further 20 737 MAX, alongside seven additional 787-9s and seven more 737 MAX.
In contrast, its European competitor Airbus did not report any new orders during this timeframe, possibly holding off announcements in anticipation of the International Paris Air Show.
The surge in orders for May 2025 signifies a crucial moment for Boeing, especially given the company’s announcement to raise its monthly production rate from 38 to 42 units of the 737 MAX series by mid-2025.
Despite this influx of new orders, Boeing continues to face challenges in addressing its substantial backlog of 6,537 unfulfilled orders as of May 2025. This backlog is attributed to ongoing production constraints and persistent supply chain issues.
As of early June 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not yet lifted the production cap of 38 aircraft per month on Boeing’s 737 MAX jets, a measure instituted following the January 2024 incident involving an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9.
When it comes to aircraft deliveries, Boeing delivered 45 new aircraft in May 2025—six less than Airbus, which delivered 51 aircraft to 32 customers that month.
In total, Boeing has successfully delivered 220 new aircraft to customers in 2025 thus far, encompassing 167 737s, 28 787s, 16 777s, and nine 767s, while Airbus has delivered 243 new aircraft to 61 customers around the globe.
