Etihad Airways has inaugurated a new route connecting Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to Nairobi, Kenya, which represents the airline’s 10th new destination in its expanding network for 2024.
The service commenced on December 15, 2024, and aims to establish “a vital link between the capital of the UAE and one of Africa’s most vibrant cities,” as stated in the airline’s press release.
This new connection will facilitate travel between Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH) and Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO). The route will operate four times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays utilizing an Airbus A320 aircraft.
“By launching our Nairobi service, we are enhancing our growing network in response to robust travel demand between the UAE and Kenya,” commented Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways. “With both Abu Dhabi and Kenya witnessing significant growth in tourism and aiming for ambitious targets, this route opens up numerous opportunities for both locations.”
This launch takes place “at a crucial moment for Kenya’s tourism sector,” according to Etihad. Visitor numbers are projected to approach three million in 2024, with aspirations to reach five million in subsequent years. The airline noted that Kenya’s tourism industry “is on a strong growth path.”
The introduction of the Nairobi route follows new services launched in 2024 to destinations such as Antalya, Bali, Boston, Jaipur, Kozhikode, Mykonos, Nice, Qassim, and Thiruvananthapuram.
From 2025, Etihad is set to introduce 13 additional destinations, including flights to Warsaw and Prague in June, Al Alamein and Atlanta in July, Taipei in September, as well as Medan, Phnom Penh, and Krabi in October, and Tunis, Chiang Mai, Hong Kong, Hanoi, and Algiers in November.
