Etihad, Ethiopian start codeshare deal to boost connectivity

Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines have launched a strategic codeshare partnership, significantly enhancing travel options across Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

This initiative marks the commencement of the collaboration established between Etihad and Ethiopian in March 2025, aimed at “unlocking greater travel opportunities for passengers throughout both networks,” as stated by Etihad on June 9, 2025.

“By leveraging our combined networks, we are facilitating seamless travel opportunities between Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East,” expressed Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer. “Effortless connections via Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa will enhance flexibility, promote trade and tourism, and provide unparalleled travel experiences for guests of both airlines.”

Ethiopian Airlines will commence flights from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) to Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) starting July 15, 2025. Additionally, Etihad Airways plans to introduce daily flights to Addis Ababa from October 8, 2025.

The codeshare agreement will streamline travel for passengers, allowing them to make a single booking with one check-in process at the outset, while conveniently having their luggage transported directly to their final destination.

Through this partnership, Etihad travelers will gain access to Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive African network, enabling connections via Addis Ababa to 55 locations across 33 countries. Key destinations include Entebbe, Kinshasa, Kigali, Lusaka, Harare, and Victoria Falls.

Meanwhile, passengers of Ethiopian Airlines can easily book itineraries that connect to Etihad-operated flights through Abu Dhabi, with extended service to 20 major destinations in Asia, Australia, and the Middle East, such as Sydney, Krabi, Colombo, and Phnom Penh.
