Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines have launched a collaborative codeshare agreement, expanding travel options across Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
This initiative marks the initial phase of the collaboration formed between Etihad and Ethiopian in March 2025, designed to “unlock greater travel opportunities for passengers across both networks,” as stated by Etihad on June 9, 2025.
“By harnessing our combined networks, we are creating seamless travel experiences between Africa and Asia, Australia, and the Middle East,” said Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer. “Enhanced connectivity via Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa will increase flexibility, support trade and tourism, and provide exceptional travel experiences for the guests of both airlines.”
Ethiopian Airlines plans to commence flights from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) to Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) on July 15, 2025. Furthermore, Etihad Airways is set to initiate daily flights to Addis Ababa starting on October 8, 2025.
The codeshare agreement will streamline travel for passengers by allowing them to make a single booking and check-in at the outset, with the convenience of having their luggage sent straight to their final destination.
Under the terms of this partnership, Etihad travelers can access Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive African network, which connects through Addis Ababa to 55 locations across 33 countries, including Entebbe, Kinshasa, Kigali, Lusaka, Harare, and Victoria Falls.
Simultaneously, Ethiopian Airlines customers will be able to book trips connecting to Etihad-operated flights through Abu Dhabi, extending their reach to 20 major destinations in Asia, Australia, and the Middle East, such as Sydney, Krabi, Colombo, and Phnom Penh.
