Overview of India’s Aviation Commitment

During the IATA’s 81st AGM, Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s enduring support for open skies and global connectivity. He expressed commitment to the principles of the Chicago Convention and urged collaboration in developing an accessible and secure aviation network.
This message comes following comments from Emirates’ President Tim Clark, who highlighted concerns over India’s restrictive policies on foreign airlines and their potential negative economic impacts. Clark critiqued such restrictions as counterproductive, stressing the importance of air connectivity for economic development.
Modi responded by highlighting the Protection of Interest in Aircraft Objects Bill, which promotes global aircraft leasing in India, aligning Indian aviation laws with international best practices. He pointed out that the new regulatory framework would drive investment and growth in the sector.
India is on a pathway to becoming a global Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub by 2030, with ambitious plans for a $4 billion investment, which is integral to its aviation growth strategy. The Prime Minister called for a shift toward ‘Design in India,’ showcasing India’s potential in aviation innovation.
