Singapore Airlines A350 Makes An Emergency Landing at Perth Airport

PERTH- A Singapore Airlines (SQ) flight from Brisbane (BNE) to Singapore (SIN) made an emergency landing in Perth (PER) due to an engine issue on July 7, 2025. The Airbus A350 experienced a low-pressure warning on engine 1, leading to a controlled engine shutdown.

The crew followed standard safety protocols and opted to divert to Perth (PER), prioritizing the availability of engineering assistance and operational logistics over other nearby alternatives like Darwin (DRW) or Broome (BME).

Flight SQ256, utilizing a 5.5-year-old Airbus A350-900, registered as 9V-SHM, was on its way from Brisbane (BNE) to Singapore (SIN) when the flight crew received the low-pressure alert related to engine 1.

While the exact cause of the alert—fuel, hydraulic, or oil pressure—remains unverified, the engine was shut down in line with standard operating measures.

Despite the proximity to alternative landing spots like Broome (BME), Darwin (DRW), and Denpasar (DPS), the pilots decided on Perth (PER), situated roughly 1,040 miles from the aircraft’s position at the time of the incident.

This choice is thought to be influenced by Perth’s better maintenance services and preparedness for handling widebody aircraft such as the A350.

Diverting to Perth allowed for a more streamlined transfer process for the passengers and ensured that the aircraft received prompt engineering support.

Following the diversion, a replacement Airbus A350 (registered as 9V-SHP) was dispatched to Perth (PER) as flight SQ9225.

The replacement aircraft took off as flight SQ9224 at 4:40 p.m. local time on July 8 and is projected to reach Singapore around 9:40 p.m. the same day.

During their time in Perth, passengers were provided with meals and beverages. A spokesperson for Singapore Airlines assured, “We are extending all necessary support to affected passengers, encompassing rebooking of connecting flights and accommodations in Singapore if required.”

The airline also expressed regret, stating, “Singapore Airlines sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused.”
