In the lead-up to the Paris Air Show 2025, ATR, the Franco-Italian turboprop manufacturer, has secured a significant commercial achievement.
On June 10, 2025, UNI Air, the regional subsidiary of EVA Air from Taiwan, confirmed a firm order for 19 ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft, along with options for three additional units. This order represents ATR’s largest single acquisition since 2017, with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2032.
UNI Air’s Fleet Renewal and Growth
The newly ordered aircraft will progressively replace and expand UNI Air’s current fleet of 14 ATR 72-600s. These updated models will feature next-generation PW127XT engines, an upgraded cabin configuration, and a cutting-edge Air Management System aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency, reducing maintenance costs, and elevating passenger comfort.
“This is a significant advancement in UNI Air’s plan to enhance domestic air services,” stated Solomon Lin, Chairman of UNI Air. “With this new order, we are reinforcing our dedication to maintaining a young and modern fleet, which will serve the domestic market effectively while providing our passengers the utmost standards of comfort and reliability.”
Enhancing Taiwan’s Domestic Air Connectivity
Headquartered at Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA), UNI Air serves 11 destinations across Taiwan, including outlying islands like Kinmen, Penghu, and Matsu. These routes are vital for ensuring year-round access to communities heavily dependent on air transport due to limited alternative options.
“UNI Air plays a significant role in the communities it serves,” remarked ATR CEO Nathalie Tarnaud-Laude. “This new order strongly emphasizes our mission: to create aircraft that connect communities.”
The airline is crucial for maintaining Taiwan’s domestic connectivity, linking remote areas to larger domestic and international hubs and contributing to the overall transportation ecosystem of the country.
As elaborated in a recent interview with Jean-Daniel Kosowski, Sales Director at ATR – Singapore Branch Office, the Asia-Pacific region remains a vital contributor to ATR’s global expansion, with operators depending on its aircraft to access underserved and remote destinations.
