CHICAGO- United Airlines (UA) is set to operate its busiest schedule of the year from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) this fall, surpassing even its peak summer activity. The carrier plans to run up to 592 daily flights in October, setting a new record for outbound service from its hometown hub.
In November, United will add 50 more flights from Chicago, enhancing its capacity to warm-weather destinations such as Phoenix (PHX), Austin (AUS), and Orlando (MCO). Notably, the airline will provide 10% more seats to Florida compared to the same period last year.
United Airlines is building on a record-breaking summer by significantly expanding its fall network from Chicago O’Hare (ORD).
This expansion incorporates increased frequencies to high-demand U.S. cities as well as extended service to Latin America and the Caribbean, targeting leisure travelers venturing towards warmer climates.
New or extended service includes:
- Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR): Extended weekend service beginning in October
- Cozumel, Mexico (CZM): Extended weekend service starting in November
- Saint Martin (SXM): Extended weekend service set for November
- Guatemala City, Guatemala (GUA): Additional weekend service in October
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ): Additional weekend service in October
- San José del Cabo, Mexico (SJD): Additional weekend service in October
On the domestic front, United will increase flights to Phoenix (PHX), Austin (AUS), and Orlando (MCO)—three of the most sought-after warm-weather destinations in the U.S. These additions respond directly to the rising demand for leisure travel during the fall months.
Passenger Experience Upgrades
United’s growth during the fall is supported by a modernized fleet that includes aircraft like the Airbus A321neo and Boeing 737 MAX 9.
These aircraft provide seat-back entertainment at each seat, larger overhead bins, and enhanced fuel efficiency, thereby improving customer experience and operational sustainability.
The airline has also introduced Starlink-powered in-flight Wi-Fi service from Chicago, offering high-speed internet access from gate to gate.
Additionally, United has expanded its Polaris® lounge at ORD, which is now 50% larger, featuring nearly 25,000 square feet of premium space for international travelers.
O’Hare at the Center of UA Long-Term Strategy
Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) remains a strategic hub for United’s domestic and international growth initiatives.
According to the airline, more mainline aircraft will be operating from ORD this October than at any time in the past two decades, confirming the airport’s position as the best-connected in the nation.
Local government officials have praised the expansion, with Mayor Brandon Johnson noting that United’s growth aligns with the city’s long-term O’Hare 21 capital plan.
Commissioner Michael J. McMurray of the Chicago Department of Aviation emphasized that the enhanced Latin American and Caribbean services reinforce ORD’s global reach.
Currently, United Airlines employs over 18,000 people in the Chicagoland area, having hired an additional 2,000 local employees recently.
The company expects to add another 5,400 jobs by 2027, demonstrating its commitment to supporting local economic development.
