Flight Operations Overview
Akasa Air is set to launch flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport, initially planning for more than 100 weekly domestic departures. This number is expected to rise to 300 domestic and over 50 international flights in the future. The airline’s growth strategy includes establishing 10 parking bases by 2027, focusing primarily on expanding routes to the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Recently, Akasa Air partnered with AdAirport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), signaling the beginning of commercial operations from the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). According to a statement, the airline will kick off with over 100 domestic flights weekly, with plans to scale operations significantly.
Vinay Dube, the Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, remarked: “Our entry into Navi Mumbai International Airport is a strategic milestone that reflects our commitment to evolving as an airline that caters to Indian travelers’ needs. No other airline in India will operate a greater proportion of its fleet from NMIA than Akasa Air.”

“The improved connectivity from Navi Mumbai is poised to bolster our network in western India and stimulate economic growth by enhancing regional development and ensuring that the benefits of aviation reach every corner of the nation. This initiative is also a part of our dedication to increasing capacity and fostering sustainable growth,” Dube added. “NMIA symbolizes the future of Indian aviation, and our proactive presence aligns with our vision of addressing the emerging demand efficiently and innovatively.”
Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, expressed enthusiasm for Akasa Air joining as one of the first airline partners: “Their rapid growth and forward-thinking strategy are well-suited for NMIA’s trajectory towards being a vital domestic and international hub. Our partnership aims to provide an elevated travel experience for millions, with NMIA serving as a crucial component in enhancing Mumbai’s air connectivity.”
Initially, Navi Mumbai Airport is projected to cater to 20 million passengers and process 0.5 million metric tonnes of cargo annually, with long-term capacity expected to reach 90 million passengers and 3.2 million metric tonnes of cargo.
The development of Navi Mumbai Airport will establish a dual-airport system for Mumbai, alleviating congestion at the existing airport and significantly improving the passenger experience.
The airport is constructed on over 1,160 hectares and features two parallel runways designed for simultaneous landings and takeoffs.
In March 2025, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani visited the airport site, which is nearing operational readiness. Adani Group previously indicated that the airport is set to open in the first half of 2025.
The innovative Navi Mumbai airport boasts a 3,700-meter runway, capable of accommodating large commercial airplanes.
