DELHI- Passengers on Air India (AI) Flight AI 2382 traveling from Delhi (DEL) to Singapore (SIN) experienced significant delays totaling 8.5 hours on Saturday, May 31, 2025, attributed to ongoing technical issues. The aircraft’s two attempted take-offs were aborted, causing considerable inconvenience for passengers and disrupting their travel schedules.
The Airbus A321 was grounded for several hours as passengers remained on board until they were deboarded and returned to the terminal. Subsequently, Air India acknowledged the technical glitch and provided options for flight rescheduling or refunds.
Air India Singapore Flight Cancellation
Flight AI 2382 was slated to depart from Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) at 12:55 PM, proceeding to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). Initially, the flight commenced taxiing slightly ahead of schedule at 12:47 PM; however, a technical issue forced an abrupt return.
During the extended delay, passengers aboard the Airbus A321 were kept informed about the malfunction but remained seated inside the aircraft for over three hours while maintenance crews worked on the problem.
A further attempt to depart was made, but the aircraft only moved about 10 metres from its parking position before the issue occurred again, prompting the captain to abort the take-off and return to the gate.
Passengers expressed frustration regarding the lack of timely updates and support during the delays, particularly those who were senior citizens or had connecting flights.
Initially, only snacks like popcorn were offered during the wait, but passengers were eventually taken back to the terminal via shuttle buses. It wasn’t until 6:45 PM that full meals were finally provided, hour after the ordeal began.

Abhiraj Singh, a student from the National University of Singapore, highlighted the lack of communication and the impact it had on individuals with onward flight connections.
Sahaj Agarwal, traveling to Vietnam via Singapore, noted the adverse effects on his health caused by the delay in food service.
The disruption resulted in not only physical discomfort but also heightened emotional stress for those affected. Air India recognized the technical malfunction and confirmed that passengers were presented with options for complimentary rescheduling or complete refunds.
Despite earlier estimates suggesting the flight would depart at 8:30 PM, it eventually took off at 9:25 PM, over eight hours after the original schedule.
Operational Challenges
This incident raises further questions about Air India’s maintenance reliability and crisis management practices.
The prolonged delays without adequate support have led to calls for improved protocols, especially for international flights where many passengers depend on tight connection times.
While the airline did offer refunds and meals, these came only after significant waiting periods, indicating an urgent need for better proactive service management.
Although technical issues are not uncommon in the aviation sector, the inability to quickly resolve them or to communicate effectively can severely undermine passenger confidence.
