Boeing achieved impressive success in May 2025 with a record order of 303 new aircraft, marking it as the sixth-best month for orders in the company’s extensive history.
This represents a remarkable rise from the mere eight orders Boeing secured in April 2025, while its competitor Airbus experienced a substantial decline, managing only 11 orders during the same month.
Boeing’s orders and deliveries report highlighted that the 303 aircraft ordered in May 2025 included 119 737 MAX, 75 787-10s, 45 787-9s, 30 777X, 20 737 MAX, along with seven 787-9s and seven additional 737 MAX.
In contrast, Airbus did not report any new orders in the same timeframe, potentially holding off on announcements in anticipation of the upcoming International Paris Air Show.
The substantial orders placed in May 2025 signify a crucial milestone for Boeing, particularly in light of the company’s plans to increase its monthly production rate of the 737 MAX series from 38 to 42 units by mid-2025.
Despite these encouraging new orders, Boeing continues to contend with a significant backlog of 6,537 unfilled orders as of May 2025, largely attributable to ongoing challenges in production and persistent supply chain issues.
As of early June 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not yet lifted the production restriction of 38 aircraft monthly for Boeing’s 737 MAX jets, a limit established following the Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 door incident in January 2024.
In terms of deliveries, Boeing delivered 45 new aircraft in May 2025, which is six fewer than Airbus, who delivered 51 aircraft to 32 customers in that same time period.
Throughout 2025 thus far, Boeing has delivered a total of 220 new aircraft to its customers, comprising 167 737s, 28 787s, 16 777s, and nine 767s. Conversely, Airbus has delivered 243 new aircraft to 61 customers globally.
