Eurowings introduces new business class seats

Eurowings, the European budget subsidiary of Germany’s Lufthansa, has announced its latest advancement in cabin design with a new seat akin to business class offerings from other airlines. Set to debut on select aircraft within the carrier’s single-aisle fleet, these seats will be introduced on Eurowings medium-haul routes starting in late 2025, first in a trial phase. The airline claims that this new seating arrangement provides “a level of comfort that is otherwise only found on widebody jets.”

On May 29, 2025, Eurowings announced the launch of its innovative business class experience aimed at enhancing comfort on longer medium-haul routes by autumn 2025. The new seating, dubbed the ‘Premium BIZ’ seat, will feature a 2×2 layout in a newly designed forward cabin on the airline’s Airbus A320neo fleet. Manufactured by the Italian company Geven, these seats promise “adjustable backrests, ergonomic design, and ample padding, offering significantly more comfort and privacy than typical seats on today’s medium-haul jets,” according to the airline.

The introduction of the Premium BIZ marks Eurowings as the first airline in Germany to incorporate premium seating in smaller, narrowbody aircraft. This business class option will appear on Eurowings routes starting November 2025, with the inaugural service from Berlin to Dubai and booking options available from August 2025.

The new Premium BIZ seating will complement Eurowings’ existing business class options, which include a configuration where the middle seat of three remains vacant, along with the ‘SMART’ extra legroom seats and a basic economy offering. Each aircraft will have eight rows of eight seats available for Premium BIZ passengers.

“With our new Premium BIZ seat, we are providing business travelers and vacationers a new level of comfort on medium-haul flights,” expressed Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings. “The enhanced privacy and overall comfort significantly improve the travel experience on longer flights. We are setting a new benchmark in our market segment and positioning Eurowings as Europe’s leading value airline.”

The airline indicated that the Premium BIZ product’s market trials during the 2025/26 northern winter timetable will yield valuable insights for the Lufthansa Group, informing future aircraft configurations.

Fleet Renewal Plans

Eurowings is currently undertaking its most extensive fleet renewal in its history, having placed an order for 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in January 2025. The Lufthansa Group confirmed that these aircraft would be assigned to Eurowings as evidence of its commitment to more sustainable aviation, equating this order to a $5 billion investment. The new jets will feature a redesigned cabin aimed at increasing comfort, accommodating up to 189 passengers.

“With 40 state-of-the-art aircraft, we are establishing a solid foundation for Eurowings’ future, aligning with ambitious sustainability objectives. This major investment signifies our rapid advancement towards low-emission flying, characterized by reduced fuel consumption, lower emissions, and significantly less noise,” stated CEO Jens Bischof upon announcing the order.

Bischof further stated: “The high cost efficiency of the new jets allows us to continue providing our customers with fair and appealing ticket prices. Without such technological advancements, an airline will find it challenging to succeed in the market of the 2030s.”
