Air Advisor has published its airport rankings for 2026. The organization undertook comprehensive research into travel habits and preferences to evaluate 23 of the most frequented airports globally. London Heathrow Airport (LHR) secured the top position, followed by Dublin Airport (DAA) and Tenerife South Airport (TFS) in second and third places, respectively. Eight of the top ten airports are located in Europe.
This narrative is somewhat surprising. Travelers often voice their grievances about London Heathrow. Nevertheless, its ranking is attributed to its remarkable capacity and on-time departure statistics, with punctuality accounting for 40% of the overall score. No other airport worldwide can match its ability to transport such a large number of passengers to their destinations punctually.
What Criteria Did Air Advisor Utilize?
Determining the best airport in the world and selecting which airports to consider is inherently subjective. Air Advisor has established several categories with varying weights to introduce a level of objectivity. The evaluation begins with the top 23 airports based on passenger traffic from the US and the UK. The rationale is clear: “If British and North American travelers seldom visit these airports, why should they be included?” it states.
Punctuality, defined as the percentage of flights that depart on time, and the average Google review score out of five stars each received the highest weighting at 40%. The remaining 20% was distributed across four categories: transport cost (8%), which reflects the average spending on transfers to the nearest city; shopping experience (5%), based on the average Google review star rating for airport shops; average transfer distance (4%); and finally, Skytrax’s rating out of five, which contributed 3%.
By closely analyzing these metrics, Air Advisor aims to provide a comprehensive view, placing significant emphasis on Google reviews. To focus on each individual factor, the most substantial weight is assigned to punctuality. Air Advisor has distilled the essence of airports to their primary function: efficiently transporting customers from point A to point B, a decision that is both practical and refreshing.
The Complete Air Advisor Ranking
Air Advisor ranks London Heathrow and Dublin at the top, with a remarkably close final score that favors London Heathrow due to its slightly superior punctuality. Although Heathrow ranks only third in punctuality, trailing behind Los Angeles International and Bordeaux Merignac, the latter suffers from poor Google reviews, while LAX underperforms in the minor categories. At the bottom of the list are Manchester Airport and Paris Charles de Gaulle, both of which exhibit terrible punctuality and Google reviews.

There is considerable variation compared to previous rankings by Air Advisor. In comparison to 2023, Madrid-Barajas and Athens’ Eleftherios Venizelos fell nine and eight places, respectively. Conversely, Tenerife South improved by seven places, and Dublin Airport advanced by six places.
What Makes Heathrow Stand Out
Heathrow’s strong performance can be attributed, in part, to the metrics selected by Air Advisor. The airport handled an astounding 84.5 million passengers in 2025 and achieved a punctuality rate of 79.14%. This figure is significantly above the average on-time departure rate of 74.04% across the 23 airports evaluated. Athens, which topped the Air Advisor rankings in 2023, plummeted to ninth place due to a drastic decline in punctuality to just five points.
